SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – The Lawrence Technological (Mich.) University football team fell to No. 5 Saint Xavier (Ill.) University 45-13 on Saturday, September 7 in Southfield, Mich.

Lawrence Tech (0-1) took the opening kick, but after a three-and-out, the Cougars got the ball. It took just one play for Saint Xavier to take a 7-0 lead as Vance McShane hit the outside and ran the sideline for 60 yards. McShane made it 14-0 on a five yard run to finish the first quarter up 14-0.

In the second quarter, the Blue Devils cut the lead to 21-7, but a flag negated the touchdown forcing the Blue Devils to turn the ball over on downs. The Cougars responded with another touchdown, this one a 22 yard pass from Alex Martinez to Justin Pringle to push Saint Xavier to a 28-0 lead.

The Lawrence Tech’s defense held the Cougars to a field goal on the next drive to make it 31-0. The Blue Devils responded with a fumble recovery that led to a 36-yard field goal for Brad Gibson to make it 31-3. The Cougars added one more touchdown before the half to take a 38-3 lead into the break.

“We talked about bounce back,” head coach Jeff Duvendeck said. “Being one of the main points; the three main keys of winning that game. Our bounce back at first was a little slow. We spot him 28 and it got out of the game slow and just kind of got shell-shocked.
