MIDLAND, MICH. – The Northwood University football program has announced four new coaches for the 2019 season.
Adam Gonzaga will serve as the linebackers coach. Will Luzar takes over as the running backs coach. Arthur Ray will be the offensive line coach, while Antwon Robinson is the new defensive backs coach.
Gonzaga is a familiar face for Northwood fans, as he served as the defensive coordinator at Northwood from 2002-06. In his first stint Northwood, he was a part of three NCAA Playoff teams and the 2004 GLIAC Championship. Gonzaga had spent the previous five seasons as the defensive coordinator at Saginaw Valley.
Luzar also returns to Northwood for a second stint on staff – he served as a linebackers and speed coach for the 2014 and 2015 seasons. Luzar also has extensive high school experience, having been a head coach at Arthur Hill and Bullock Creek as well as an assistant at Midland High.
Ray comes to Northwood after serving as the head coach at Curie Metro High School in Chicago in 2018. He was a guard at Michigan State and went to the Miami Dolphins training camp in 2015. Ray will also serve as Northwood’s recruiting coordinator.
Robinson comes to Northwood after spending the 2018 season as a graduate assistant at Wayne State, working with the defensive backs. Three DBs earned All-GLIAC honors in his season as a coach. Robinson was a four-year letterwinner for Wayne State (2010-13), appearing in 48 career games.
Northwood will open its 2019 season at home against Tiffin September 7. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
